Only YOU Can Celebrate 80 Years of Wild Fire Prevention!

On August 9th, 2024 Smokey the Bear turns 80 years old. To celebrate the iconic figure and arguably America's longest running and most successful advertising campaign ever, Ashmore Parks & Game in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters is launching a yearlong celebration.

Smokey has already made an appearance to kickoff this celebration at the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1st. That's a hard cameo to beat, but you can expect to see and hear from Smokey throughout the year. The Parks service will be reviving the #SingForSmokey hashtag where folks sing happy birthday to our lovable bear. So keep an eye on social media for celebrity sightings.

Despite the success of Smokey Bear’s campaign over the years, wildfire prevention remains one of the most critical issues affecting our country’s forests and grasslands. With over 80 percent of wildfires being started accidentally or by careless or bad behavior, Smokey's message is as relevant and urgent today as it was in 1944.

Help us get the word out about Smokey’s 80th by reposting official Forest Service or Ad Council social media posts or by telling all your friends and family that only they can help prevent wild fires by spreading Smokey’s message far and wide.
