OPERATION THEMIS - AN UPDATE ON FIREARM PERMITS

ASHMORE, PA TUESDAY, MARCH 6 2023 -The Ashmore Police Department, in cooperation with Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, today announce their participation in Operation Themis, a State-wide initiative to standardize and enforce Firearm Permits, Federal Firearms License (FFL) Transfers, and Concealed Carry Licences (CCL).

All owners of firearms MUST obtain a Firearm Permit to remain in compliance with Pennsylvania State Law and Local Ordinance. Those wishing to ‘conceal carry’ must obtain a Concealed Carry License. Operation Themis permits a ‘grandfathering’ period to allow members of the public to obtain the prerequisite documentation ahead of enforcement action.

ALL FIREARM OWNERS MUST OBTAIN THE APPROPRIATE LICENSES NO LATER THAN 11:59 PM EST, FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH 2023. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS DEADLINE WILL RESULT IN ENFORCEMENT ACTION, INCLUDING ARREST AND PROSECUTION.

Effective immediately, all firearms dealers in the town of Ashmore will be required to maintain an accurate accounting of all firearms applications (ATF4473), transactions, and transfers as a condition of their operating license.

Effective immediately, all firearms dealers, trainers, and facilities must maintain an accurate record of all issued permits, both for individual firearms and completed Concealed Carry Licenses.

Questions on the local ordinance, licensing, and dealer support may be directed to the Ashmore Police Department. All other matters should be directed to the ATF Field Office, Philadelphia.
