PRESS RELEASE

CITY OF ASHMORE 1000 WOODHILL ROAD ASHMORE, PENNSYLVANIA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th, 2023

ASHMORE, PA

CITY COMMISSIONER NAMED

As the City of Ashmore continues to grow and diversify, so do the challenges facing our First Responders and Emergency Services. Since the beginning of 2023, Ashmore’s Fire and Police Departments, and Ashmore Health, have come under increasing strain as operational requirements, emergency incidents, and responsibilities have grown, with examples of extreme weather resulting in widespread damage, power outages, and a strain on local resources, as well as several other major incidents that have tested our City’s emergency preparedness to the limit.

Today, the City of Ashmore seeks to bring those emergency services under a unified leadership, granting enhanced cross-collaboration, the sharing of previously diversified systems, and greater flexibility and cooperation to the Ashmore Police Department, Ashmore Fire Department, and Ashmore Health by naming the City’s first Commissioner of Emergency Services.

We are pleased to announce that Chief of Police Fen Blacach has accepted the position of Commissioner with immediate effect. Commissioner of Emergency Services is a civilian role, with Chief Blacach maintaining his command of the Ashmore Police Department in parallel with his new responsibilities as the City’s Commissioner of Emergency Services.

With oversight over all emergency response in the city, Chief Blacach will bolster the city’s resilience to both the unexpected and the daily operations of the City’s First Responders, working with the leaders of each respective service, as well as other City services, local and Federal agencies, and public groups to make our City, and our population, safer.
