HUMANS
This page outlines some defining traits and roleplay prompts for Humans within the Unnatural Universe, and while creativity is encouraged, adhering to the established lore of the Unnatural Universe is essential for an immersive experience for everyone.
Humans in the Unnatural Universe are no different than Humans in real life, and they are the most common race in this world. Known for their intelligence and adaptability, they are generally physically weaker than some of the other Supernatural species, but they make up for it with their resourcefulness, quick thinking, and perhaps numbers, when needed.
ORIGINS
Throughout history, the origins of Humans have been debated, with theories like Creation, Evolution, and Separate Origins influenced by culture, faith, geography, or scholarship. In the Unnatural Universe people still believe these things, but the true origins of all races, including Humans, remain unknown, and no theory has been proven true despite individual beliefs.
APPEARANCE
Just Human :P, but please do follow the OOC rules on this! No minors, anime, furries, etc.
CHARACTERISTICS
Humans in the Unnatural Universe are just like those in the real world, with no special abilities or psychic sensitivities. A person is either Supernatural or not, with no hybrids or in-betweens, even a person has a Supernatural parent, they inherit traits from one parent only, Supernatural or not, and these traits can skip generations.
Humans are the most versatile race in the Unnatural Universe, with the greatest potential for growth and change. Players can start as a Human and, except for Waterborn, can switch races later. Humans can be "Oblivious" or "Knowing" about the supernatural, become late-blooming Phral or Shifters, be turned by Werewolves or Vampires, or become possessed by Incarnates. For details on turning, see individual race pages.
There are generally two types of Humans, as mentioned above, knowing or not, but players are free to create and develop their characters as they wish, here are some examples:
UNKNOWING:
Oblivious: These Humans know nothing about Supernaturals or are skeptical, relying solely on science. They study mythology from an academic perspective but dismiss its truth. They mock those who speak of Supernatural encounters, attributing any strange experiences to hallucinations or delusions.
Superstitious/Suspicious: These Humans don't have proof of Supernaturals but believe in their existence based on personal experiences or a desire for the mystical to be true. They trust in good luck charms, psychics, and home remedies, often studying the occult and subscribing to related publications. Some may even set up cameras to capture Supernatural evidence or write about their findings online.
Supernatural Fans: These Humans believe or hope that Supernaturals exist. They immerse themselves in Supernatural fiction, dress in gothic or supernatural-inspired fashion, and even perform rituals. They fantasize about living among Supernaturals, with dreams of meeting, romancing, or becoming one.
KNOWING:
Knowing Humans are complex. Some are born into Supernatural families, while others learn later in life. While there is no telling how a human will react when they find out, their reactions to this knowledge range from fear and hatred to fascination and admiration. But one thing they all come to understand is to keep their mouths shut when it comes to Supernaturals, though they may have different reasons or motivations, like fear of Supernaturals killing them or having been threatened, loyalty to a Supernatural “master”, lover, or friend; or an understanding of what it could mean for the world were the secret known. Think of the Salem Witch Trials, The Inquisition, Exorcisms, etc.
Born Knowing: These individuals are from Supernatural families but never awakened or shifted. They understand the culture and secrecy but may choose to be protective or resentful.
Open-Minded: These humans accept Supernaturals and advocate for coexistence. They form strong bonds and alliances or at least aim for a working relationship despite any dangers.
Hunters: Hunters dedicate themselves to eradicating Supernaturals once they know the truth. Lacking Supernatural abilities or special weapons, they rely on common human resources and accept the risks of becoming targets.
Groupies: These fans seek to be turned or romanced by Supernaturals. They may become willing servants, working or hanging out in Supernatural territories like Club Lazarus for Vampires, The Bad Moon Saloon for Werewolves, or Spellbound for Phral.
REPRODUCTION/TURNING:
Y'all know how humans reproduce... but...
For players, Humans are the most versatile playable character in Unnatural. If a player is unsure of what they'd like to play they can come in as human and could later "awaken" to Phral abilities, be a late-blooming Werewolf or Shifter, or be turned Vampire or Werewolf. Please see the individual race pages for information on background and turning.
HUMANS AND SUPERNATURALS:
Humans have long romanticized, glamorized, and capitalized on the fantasy of Supernaturals, dancing on the fine line between reality and fiction. In ancient times, Supernaturals were seen as gods, demigods, demons, and evil-doers. Skeptics, believers, and romantics alike have all been affected by encounters with Supernaturals, whether they realized it or not. From receiving medicine from a Phral to being dragged to the depths by a Waterborn, these stories all hold a grain of truth.
Humans are vulnerable to Supernatural abilities, but aware Humans learn to avoid dangers, such as refraining from eye contact with Vampires. However, remember that consent is crucial in roleplaying, and players should discuss and agree on terms and effects beforehand, at the same time, Human players should keep their environment in consideration, as playing a Human that is impervious to everything could be seen as overpowered
Vampires have unique effects on Humans. Feeding by a Vampire can be psychologically and physically addictive, enhanced by their glamorous lifestyle. Feeding induces relaxation and erotic visions, while Vampire blood brings euphoria, energy, and heightened senses. The allure of Vampires is undeniable, often drawing Humans into their world.
Werewolves, with their rugged appeal and pheromones, also intrigue Humans. Small doses of Werewolf blood act as relaxants, aiding in trance states for Phral rituals. Werewolves' connection to nature and their primal charisma make them fascinating to Humans, who are often drawn to their strength and wildness.
Shifters, with their ability to transform into any vertebrate animal native to their region, captivate Humans with their versatility and mystery. Shifters can use their abilities to protect themselves and others or to blend into different environments. Humans who befriend Shifters often gain valuable allies who can provide unique insights and protection.
Waterborn, such as mermaids and selkies, can shift between aquatic and human forms. Their allure lies in their mysterious nature and the connection to the ocean's depths. Humans are often enchanted by Waterborn, but encounters can be dangerous. Waterborn can drag unsuspecting Humans into the water, so awareness and caution are essential.
Phral have aided Humans for thousands of years, providing medicines, healing, and protection. Humans seek help from Phral for protection, curses, or alternative remedies. Their deep knowledge of magic and the supernatural makes them invaluable allies or formidable opponents.
Incarnates are perhaps the most widely recognized Supernatural entities in the Unnatural Universe. Many people believe in demons, angels, or demonic possessions more than any other Supernatural encounter. Various religions have rituals for exorcisms, though they are often ineffective. Incarnates are associated with religious beliefs and mythologies worldwide, embodying fears and hopes of different cultures.
In the Unnatural Universe, Humans navigate a world filled with Supernaturals, learning to protect themselves while being drawn to the mystery and power of these beings. The interplay between Humans and Supernaturals creates a complex, dynamic world where consent and awareness are key to survival and understanding.
